ECUs for off-road

Taipan ECUs are aftermarket, plug-and-play units AiM built specifically for off-road motorcycles. A high-performance 32-bit core lifts engine performance without sacrificing reliability or smoothness; the latest addition, Taipan K, is built specifically for the 2024 2-stroke KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas models.

AiM states that at 20,000 RPM its 32-bit core holds timing to within a tenth of a degree — accurate to 0.8 microseconds on spark timing — for very consistent engine rotation, repeatable bench tests, sharp response to map changes and more power at the wheel.

Taipan fits most motocross motorcycles as a straight plug-and-play swap. AiM's Advanced Base Map is claimed to outperform the OEM control unit from the start, and up to five maps can be selected via the OEM switches on Honda, Husqvarna or KTM models, or via AiM's Handle Bar Switch 2.

Advanced strategies can be configured for a second injector, quick shift, launch control, traction control and other rider settings. Two extra analog inputs are available for external sensors such as a barometric pressure sensor, and two extra digital outputs are provided, one dedicated to a second injector and one free for another device such as a water pump.

Yarara is AiM's plug-and-play ECU for Yamaha ATVs, built to lift performance without giving up reliability or smoothness thanks to its 32-bit core. It is designed specifically for the Yamaha YFZ450R (2021 and 2022 model years) and the Yamaha Raptor 700 (2021 and 2023 model years).

AiM states that at 10,000 RPM its 32-bit core holds timing to within a tenth of a degree — accurate to 1.6 microseconds on spark timing — giving very consistent engine rotation, repeatable bench tests, sharp response to map changes and more power.

Yarara is a straightforward plug-and-play swap: it matches the size and connections of the original control unit exactly.

An optional secondary harness brings together a logger, the HBS handlebar switch, a quick shifter and AiM's Spark tuning software, adding:

• A UC Bridge connector, for configuring maps, reading live data through Spark, and getting remote support from tuners or AiM's own developers
• A CAN expansion, for an AiM logger, the HBS switch or a display
• Advanced strategies such as quick shift, a second injector, a spare analog channel, an input channel and a spare low-side output

The HBS Handlebar Switch lets the rider change maps on the fly with two pushbuttons and 10 LEDs, managing map changes, fuel correction, traction control and launch control. AiM's Advanced Base Map is claimed to outperform the OEM unit.
