Now in their sixth generation, EVO6 and EVO6L continue the evolution of AiM's well-known data loggers, which have become a de facto standard acquisition system across numerous championships over the years.

EVO6 runs on a new processor delivering higher performance than earlier models and is aimed at professional drivers who wire their own vehicle with Autosport connectors; it suits motorcycles, single-seaters, prototypes and other vehicles with tight packaging. EVO6L is a lighter version of its sibling that keeps high-level performance across the same applications.

Both units have a compact aluminium body that fits easily into any vehicle, and are configured quickly through RaceStudio 3.

EVO6 and EVO6L capture everything needed to understand a car's behaviour: ECU data over CAN, RS232 or K-line, readings from their internal accelerometers and gyro, position from the GPS09c supplied with every kit, plus analog/digital inputs, external expansions and predefined math channels.

EVO6 has two low-side digital outputs and EVO6L has one, both configurable to switch external systems on or off based on input values; a CAN output can also feed messages directly onto an existing CAN network.

EVO6 can take an SD card (not included) for extra storage, kept dry behind a waterproof door whose sensor shuts any open file automatically to prevent data loss. Both units connect over Wi-Fi or USB.

Available expansions on the built-in CAN bus include ACC3, LCU lambda controllers, SmartyCam cameras and the Memory Module.

GS-Dash is the compatible display, and connection kits are available for sports bikes from Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, MV Agusta, Suzuki and Yamaha.

PA6 30% glass fiber reinforced
Dimensions
61.4 x 44.7 x 27.2 mm
Weight
60 g
Waterproof
IP67
Product details

ECULog records data straight from the vehicle's ECU. It is rugged and waterproof, holds 4 GB of internal memory plus a bundled 16 GB removable key, and at just 61 x 44 x 27 mm is the smallest logger in AiM's line-up.

It reads the ECU stream over CAN, K-Line or RS232.

A range of expansions covers most needs: GPS09c/GPS09c Open for lap and split time calculation, LCU/LCU Open Series lambda controllers for carburetion tuning, and ACC3/ACC3 Open analog-to-CAN converters offering 4 analog inputs sampled up to 1 kHz each.

A Data Hub allows several expansions to run at once, so ECULog can log the GPS09c, analog sensors through ACC3 and the ECU simultaneously, while also feeding a SmartyCam camera.

Its small footprint suits motorcycle underseat installs and any vehicle where space is tight and a display isn't needed.

Data comes off the removable USB-C key for analysis in RaceStudio 3 — histograms, scatter plots, diagrams, maps and video synchronised with a SmartyCam.

Where a protocol isn't already in AiM's database, the CAN Builder tool in RaceStudio 3 lets a custom one be created. Connection kits are available for sports bikes from:

  • Aprilia
  • Ducati
  • Honda
  • Kawasaki
  • MV Agusta
  • Suzuki
  • Yamaha

XLog is a rugged, waterproof, battery-powered logger that combines ECU, GPS and inertial data acquisition in a single unit small enough for the tightest cockpit or a motorcycle.

Everything fits inside a 72.3 x 65.3 x 30.3 mm case. XLog captures data from the ECU, its own integrated GPS and a 6-axis IMU, storing it across 4 GB of internal memory plus a removable 16 GB USB-C drive. Wi-Fi, USB-C and Bluetooth Low Energy keep it connected, and a built-in 1,500 mAh battery runs for up to 10 hours; it carries an IP65 rating so it can stay fitted in any weather.

What XLog logs: lap and sector timing, vehicle position and speed, 3D acceleration and gyro readings, and ECU data over CAN, K-Line or RS232; without an ECU link it can still pick up digital RPM, either from the coil primary at 150-400 V or from an 8-50 V square-wave signal.

Position and speed are logged 25 times a second; with four satellite constellations (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo) covering the globe, accuracy typically sits within 0.5 m.

A 100 Hz, 6-axis IMU tracks acceleration across all three axes together with angular velocity in roll, pitch and yaw, and the second CAN bus can be set up to run AiM expansions or talk to other CAN devices.

AiM's expansion range — LCU Series lambda controllers, ACC3 analog-to-CAN converters and the SmartyCam Series — covers what track and off-road racing demand.

Connection kits cover:

  • Sports bikes — Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, MV Agusta, Suzuki, Yamaha
  • Motocross bikes — AiM's Taipan ECU kit, Honda, KTM, Suzuki, TM Racing, Yamaha

Versions

  • All kits include: XLog, Mini USB drive 16 GB and USB 2.0 A-Type C-Type cable, plus one of: RPM/Ext. Power cable, CAN/OBDII/K-Line/Ext. Power cable, or CAN/RS232/Ext. Power cable (200 cm).

Product details

EVO4S carries the same connection philosophy as the earlier EVO4 — one connector per channel — behind a redesigned internal electronics board that is fully compatible with the newest generation of AiM dash loggers and with RaceStudio 3.

It samples data from the vehicle ECU over CAN, RS232 or K-line, from its own accelerometers and gyro, from the GPS09c that ships in the kit, and from a set of analog/digital inputs, external expansions and pre-built math channels; sensors wire into 5 configurable analog channels, an RPM input and 2 wheel-speed inputs.

A low-side digital output can be set to switch on or off based on analog/digital inputs, ECU values, expansion data, GPS information or math channels, alongside a CAN output.

Expansion modules include the Channel Expansion (4 additional 0-5V analog channels), the LCU1S lambda controller, SmartyCam 3 cameras and the Memory Module. Compatible displays are the GS-Dash or the now-discontinued Formula Steering Wheel 3. AiM marks this product out of production on its own site.

Product details

EVO5 builds on the traditional AiM datalogger that, over the years, became a de facto standard acquisition system across a large number of championships. Its compact aluminium body fits easily into any vehicle, and setup through RaceStudio 3 is quick.

It samples data from the vehicle ECU over CAN, RS232 or K-line, from its own accelerometers and gyro, from the kit's GPS09c, and from a set of analog/digital inputs, external expansions and pre-built math channels; sensors wire into 8 configurable analog channels, an RPM input and 4 wheel-speed inputs.

Two low-side digital outputs and a CAN output are built in. An optional internal SD card can capture everything needed, kept dry behind a waterproof door whose sensor closes any open file automatically; a Wi-Fi link handles configuration and lets data be pulled from up to 100 m away.

Two multi-channel Motorsport connectors handle the wiring: a 37-pin connector for the main functions (power, CAN, the AiM CAN network) and a 22-pin connector for extras (a second CAN, digital outputs).

Expansion modules include the Channel Expansion, LCU1S, SmartyCam 3 cameras and the Memory Module; compatible displays are the GS-Dash or the discontinued Formula Steering Wheel 3. AiM marks this product out of production on its own site.
