Automatic track detection with AiM GPS module, custom track builder in RaceStudio 3

SmartyCam 4 is an on-board camera designed specifically for motorsport, overlaying live data on every recorded session and built to survive life at the track.

The overlay layers a driver's key data — from GPS and from an AiM logger reading the ECU — live over the footage; RaceStudio 3 lets the overlay be shaped freely, mixing whole graphic sets or individual elements, and adding a logo or track map.

The camera starts recording and stops automatically, reads thousands of supported ECUs out of the box, and lets a custom protocol be added via the ECU Driver Builder in RaceStudio 3 when needed. Every channel on the CAN bus and from its own sensors is written straight into the .mp4 file, and the included 64 GB USB-C drive holds everything needed for later analysis.

A 12 MP Sony CMOS sensor with a dedicated image processor handles image quality in any light, and Sony's own stabiliser locks the horizon, removes jello effect, corrects lens distortion and lifts local contrast.

AiM states the camera is built for the extreme: an IP65 rating, a CNC billet aluminium body and sapphire front glass protect it against impact, vibration, water and weather.

A single USB-C port handles configuration, track updates, live-view framing and the USB-C drive, all controllable from the free RaceStudio 3 app for iOS and Android — framing, frame rate, image flip and more.

An AiM GPS module gives automatic track detection, with a custom track builder in RaceStudio 3 for anything not already in the database. Video is compressed to FHD H.264/H.265, balanced across lens, sensor, stabiliser and compression for the best trade-off between quality and file size; once on a PC, one click splits a session into a video per lap so two laps can be compared side by side.

SmartyCam 3 Corsa is one of four models in the SmartyCam 3 family (Sport, Corsa, GP, Dual), recording Full HD at 60 fps through a global-shutter CMOS sensor with a built-in datalogger. AiM marks it out of production on its own site.

Overlays draw on both GPS and AiM loggers reading the ECU, shaped in RaceStudio 3 with a logo, track map and graphic object sets; Analysis 3 breaks a session down into one video per lap, so two laps — including a friend's, filmed with their own SmartyCam 3 on the same track — can be compared side by side.

A full internal datalogger writes every CAN-bus and internal-sensor value into the .mp4 files on an SD/MSD card, sold separately. AiM states the camera is built for the extreme: IP65 waterproof, a machined and moulded aluminium body reinforced with PA fibreglass, and a sapphire front. It starts and stops recording automatically, avoids the wave/jello effect thanks to its global shutter, and keeps file sizes down with optimised H.264 compression.

SmartyCam 3 Dual sits at the top of the SmartyCam 3 range, built for racers who want the most from their track footage: a dual Full HD camera system, video output, CAN, USB-C and an Ethernet port. AiM marks it out of production on its own site.

A second CAN feeds a full internal datalogger, recording every expansion channel alongside video in .mp4 on an SD card, sold separately. AiM states the camera is built for the extreme: anodised aluminium for both the body and the bullet cams, plus an IP65 rating. It starts and stops recording automatically, avoids the wave/jello effect thanks to its global shutter, and keeps file sizes optimised without giving up quality.

SmartyCam 3 GP is one of four models in the SmartyCam 3 family (Sport, Corsa, GP, Dual), recording Full HD at 60 fps through a global-shutter CMOS sensor with a built-in datalogger. AiM marks it out of production on its own site.

Overlays draw on GPS and AiM loggers reading the ECU. The camera picks the track automatically, drawing it and calculating lap number, lap times and rolling times; when video and data are imported separately it synchronises them on its own, or they can share a single MP4 file.

Its SDI video output streams at 30 or 60 fps. An EXP connector runs the master/slave AiM network, while a second, dedicated CAN handles the ECU connection across more than 2,000 protocols; a USB-C port covers configuration, updates, track uploads and data or video download.
