Using USB to CAN interface (Ecumaster USBtoCAN, Peak, Kvaser)

Each rule can pass, block or remap a frame, and the whole device is set up through ECUMASTER's Light Client software.

It comes with adjustable limiting pins so its travel can be set for different uses, plus a bushing for fitting a knob, and connects to any ECUMASTER product with a free analogue input. ECUMASTER notes the switch itself is made by Grayhill and finished in-house.

It covers everything from vacuum to boost pressures up to 300 kPa, which ECUMASTER positions as an accurate, low-cost option for most automotive uses.

Wi-Fi lets it be set up and customised from a phone, and its 52 mm diameter with only 12.5 mm of depth means it fits in tight spaces; six analogue inputs can add extra sensors, and ready-made alarms, such as flagging an exhaust temperature over 900°C, can be switched on and adjusted. An optional licence adds online logging from a phone.

Several display layouts are offered, from six- and four-way splits to single gauges, a performance meter and a gear display. The Gen2 model's oDSS feature gives WLAN access for configuration, logging with a licence, custom start images and updates, all without a laptop. It is compatible with ISO 11898-2 and SAE J2284, can poll up to 64 sensors where the ECU supports it, and reads both broadcast and OBD2 data over CAN, including UDS.

ECUMASTER built it for harsh motorsport use with an all solid-state design and no moving parts, for a long service life, and it protects against alternator load-dump on its own, with no extra parts needed, so emergency shutdowns cannot damage sensitive electronics.

Two external switches control it, and it can also be shut down by a CAN message, for example from a PMU-16 after an impact. It reports diagnostic data over CAN for setup and troubleshooting, guards itself against overheating and overcurrent, and shows its status through a multi-colour LED.

ECUMASTER notes that some installations are better served by moving the H-bridges away from the motor; this module carries two 10A bridges, controlled directly or by CAN message. Typical uses include acting as a bridge between an aftermarket ECU and an electronic throttle body, or running a door's window and lock, and it can also serve as a general high/low-side output expander for engine management. A CNC-machined aluminium enclosure handles heat dissipation and environmental protection.

It can hold full engagement for the start and disengage automatically above a chosen speed without needing extra sensors, so the system can be run on cars without ABS; on a road car, rear-drive engagement can instead be adjusted smoothly with a potentiometer.

The drive-by-wire module lets EMU control an electronic throttle body from an AUX or injector output, while the CAN module plugs into an EMU extension port to add CAN bus communication and four more analogue inputs. ECUMASTER's own note: the electronic-throttle function is meant for stationary testing such as dynos and generators, and should not be used on public roads.

It stores data on standard SDHC cards formatted FAT32 for quick offload to a PC, holding roughly eleven hours of logging per gigabyte of card space, and keeps time with a battery-backed real-time clock.

A built-in Bluetooth module also lets it work with ECUMASTER's eDash app, currently in beta, on iOS and Android for a custom, vehicle-specific dashboard.
