ECUMASTER points out that a modern race car carries far more electrical load than the ignition coil and points of decades past, and that fuses and relays bring bulky looms and awkward diagnostics; a PMU instead senses current continuously on every channel and resets itself after an overload, sending each output's state, voltage and current to a CAN dash display.

Output behaviour is programmed from analogue-input or CAN data with simple logic and maths per channel, LEDs show each output's status, and CAN keypads or wheel switches can simplify wiring further. A built-in accelerometer/gyro supports logging and an inertia switch for crash detection. ECUMASTER assembles the unit to IPC-S-815A standards with automated optical inspection and burn-in testing, in a sealed enclosure rated for continuous use from -40°C to +125°C.

ECUMASTER states demand came from motorsport teams and OEMs wanting a more robust product line; Autosport connectors are the standard used in professional racing and aerospace, the battery link uses a tool-free Radlok connector rated to 200 A, and the unit carries an IP65 rating for dusty or wet conditions.

Compared with the standard PMU-16 it adds six low-side outputs and raises two of the main channels to 40 A; mating connectors and terminals are supplied with the unit.
