Abrasion sleeving is built to shield coolant hoses, wiring looms, fuel lines and other components from rubbing and abrasion in cars and motorsport. It is designed to keep protecting against chafing and constant contact even under engine vibration and harsh conditions.
Fitting the sleeving is straightforward: apply heat with a heat gun so it contracts snugly around the hose or wiring loom. Keep the gun roughly 50mm (2") from the surface and move it evenly along the length. It shrinks at a low 110°C (230°F), so it is safe to use on delicate, heat-sensitive parts.
The sleeve has a 2:1 shrink ratio, so it reduces to half its starting diameter once heated - for example, a 20mm (0.78") internal diameter will shrink to around 10mm (0.39").
Before fitting, the sleeving can be trimmed to length with scissors or a craft knife. It has no adhesive backing, so removing sleeve already shrunk onto a component means cutting a careful slit down its length with a blade, taking care not to mark what's underneath, then peeling it off.
Sleeving is sold per metre, in a single uncut length running up to 20 metres.
