The Fiat 500 Abarth is a popular platform among enthusiast drivers and a familiar sight at track days, so it was a natural candidate for further development. Building on earlier direct-fit oil cooler kits for the Ford Focus RS, Toyota GR models and Honda Civic Type R, HEL applied the same approach to this car: a kit that fits cleanly with little or no modification to the vehicle.
HEL removed the front bumper from the Abarth to work out a new external oil cooler position and hose routing, together with any bespoke brackets that would be needed. The engine bay and surrounding parts were 3D laser scanned so the fit would be precise. A mounting bracket was designed around the car's original threaded points, tested first as a 3D-printed sample, then produced in its final aluminium form. Every HEL direct-fit bracket is die-cut, folded to shape and finished in black powder-coat for a discreet look. The Setrab cooler sits behind the Abarth badge, directly in the airflow, which turned out to be the best spot for cooling, output and access.
Every HEL oil cooler kit uses a Setrab unit made in Sweden. HEL has fitted Setrab coolers for over ten years without a single failure or quality issue. A cooler that cracks or bursts is a serious problem, particularly under hard driving, and this is not something HEL has experienced with Setrab. HEL is also aware of cases where a Setrab cooler kept working after a front-end collision, when other parts of the car had not.
The kit arrives with the braided hoses and aluminium fittings already assembled, so fitting is straightforward. AN8 hose carries oil to and from the external cooler, and the kit also includes a dedicated oil filter take-off plate with a built-in thermostat. That thermostat only sends oil to the external cooler once it reaches 92°C / 198°F.
About a tenth of the engine's oil is passing through the cooler at any one moment. That steady flow avoids air pockets and stops sudden thermal shock, while the remainder returns via an internal bypass, which speeds up warm-up, adds cold-weather protection, and rules out overcooling.
A clear installation guide is included with every kit, and we are happy to advise on specification if you have any questions.

Product details
The Ford Fiesta MK8 ST has drawn plenty of attention from enthusiasts, so it earned a place in HEL's development schedule. After earlier direct-fit kits for the Yaris GR, the Civic Type R and the Focus RS, HEL kept the same programme going. The aim stayed the same: a kit that is straightforward to fit and needs little or no modification.
The Fiesta spent time in HEL's workshop while the front end was stripped down. HEL's engineers laser scanned the car's engine bay and its components in 3D to get an accurate fit. A bracket was designed to use the factory mounting points, proven first as a 3D-printed prototype, then made in aluminium for production. All of HEL's brackets for this kit are cut by laser, folded to a precise shape and finished in black powder-coat for a discreet look. The Setrab cooler is mounted behind the top grille, in direct airflow, which gave the best balance of cooling and performance.
Every HEL oil cooler kit is built around a Setrab unit manufactured in Sweden. HEL has relied on Setrab coolers for more than ten years and has not seen a performance or quality issue with them. A burst or failed cooler is a serious risk, especially under demanding use, and that is not something HEL associates with Setrab's build quality. HEL knows of instances where a Setrab cooler was the only part still working after a front-end impact.
This kit is supplied with the braided hoses and aluminium fittings pre-assembled, so everything needed for a straightforward fit is included. -10 AN hose carries oil to and from the cooler, and the kit also includes HEL's own oil filter sandwich plate with an integrated thermostat. That thermostat keeps oil away from the external cooler until it reaches 92°C / 198°F.
At any moment, close to a tenth of the engine oil is passing through the cooler, which keeps a steady flow, avoids air pockets and guards against sudden thermal shock. The remainder returns to the engine via the internal bypass, which helps the engine warm up faster, adds protection in cold conditions and avoids the risk of overcooling.
A clear installation guide is included with every kit, and we are happy to advise on specification if you have any questions.

HEL Direct Fit Oil Cooler Kit for Ford Focus MK3 RS/ST
HEL part number HOCK-FOR-005
Product details
One of HEL's own staff was seeing high oil temperatures in his RS, which prompted HEL to develop a properly sorted oil cooler kit for the car. After a period of testing, HEL made it available to buy.
HEL knew RS owners would not want to drill or cut the car to fit a cooler, which led its engineers to 3D scan the engine bay and map out the best layout. That resulted in a custom aluminium bracket that mounts the cooler to the crash bar using the factory fixing points. The cooler sits in direct airflow behind the top grille, which gave the best cooling result.
The kit is built around the widely used Swedish-made Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler. The 13-row version strikes a good balance, keeping pressure loss low while still cooling effectively.
HEL has run Setrab oil coolers for more than a decade and reports that their performance has been consistently strong. Cheaper imported alternatives exist, but HEL has not found them to match Setrab for reliability, and a burst cooler is one of the more troublesome failures a car can have. HEL is also aware of cases where a Setrab unit kept working after a front-end collision.
This kit arrives with braided hose and anodised-aluminium fittings from HEL, already assembled. High-flow AN10 hose carries oil to and from the cooler, feeding a Mocal sandwich plate with a built-in thermostat, opening at 92°C (197.6°F). HEL states this setting strikes the right balance, cooling when required while still allowing normal warm-up; running the oil too cold is also a problem, and the thermostat manages temperature precisely.
This direct-fit kit gives the RS a dependable cooling system. It comes with clear instructions, and we are happy to help with any specification questions.
A step-by-step installation guide is supplied with every kit, covering topics such as increased oil capacity, pre-filling the cooler, and other manufacturer recommendations. A printed copy is included in the box.

HEL Direct Fit Oil Cooler Kit for Honda Civic (FK2) Type R
HEL part number HOCK-HON-005
Product details
Having finished its development work on the GR Yaris, one of the more exciting recent Japanese performance cars, HEL wanted to revisit another model the aftermarket had largely overlooked. A former colleague now owns HEL's old FK2 locally, so HEL borrowed it back for this project.
As with other models, HEL wanted an oil cooler kit that was simple to fit, which led its engineers to 3D scan the engine bay and map out the best layout. This produced two custom aluminium brackets that mount the cooler to the crash bar. It sits in direct airflow between the two headlights, which gave the most effective cooling position.
The kit is built around the widely used Swedish-made Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler. The 19-row version fits the available space well and gives a good balance between low pressure loss and strong cooling.
High-flow AN10 hose carries oil to and from the cooler, running to a non-thermostatic sandwich plate paired with an inline thermostat mounted on the crash bar, set to open at 92°C (197.6°F). A diagram showing exactly where to fit the thermostat and brackets is included. HEL states this setting strikes the right balance, cooling when required while still allowing normal warm-up; running the oil too cold is also a problem, and the thermostat manages temperature precisely.
This direct-fit kit gives the FK2, a car known to run hot on track, a dependable cooling system. It comes with clear instructions, and we are happy to help with any specification questions.

HEL Direct Fit Oil Cooler Kit for Honda Civic (FK8) Type R
HEL part number HOCK-HON-008
Product details
HEL has introduced a direct-fit cooler for the Civic Type R generation known as the FK8. HEL's development team spent considerable time on this project, and it is now ready to release.
The FK8 offered far less room than the FK2 Civic Type R for mounting a cooler directly in the airflow: doing so risked blocking the intercooler, while squeezing one behind the front grille would leave only around 5 rows usable, with the remainder hidden behind the bumper.
Having weighed up the options, HEL developed a full race-inspired oil cooler and brake duct arrangement that splits airflow between brake cooling and oil cooling.
Cut from sheet aluminium by laser and bent to a precise tolerance, the oil cooler ducting is shaped to fit the front-left of the car, then hard-anodised black for lasting protection.
This kit uses a 16-row Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler, a row count that balances low pressure loss with strong cooling.
At the opposite end of the cooler, HEL fitted its latest Multi-Angled Billet thermostatic sandwich plate. Placing the thermostat at the front frees up extra room in this kit, useful because clearance near the oil filter is otherwise tight.
The HEL Multi-Angled Billet thermostatic sandwich plate is set to open at 92°C (197.6°F). HEL finds this setting balances cooling with letting the engine warm up safely; running the oil too cold is also a problem, and the thermostat controls temperature precisely.
This kit comes complete with high-flow AN10 hose, pre-assembled with anodised-aluminium fittings by HEL. Its full length is wrapped in HEL's own high-temperature sleeving, rated to withstand 1000°C.
This direct-fit kit gives the FK8 Type R a dependable cooling system. It comes with clear instructions, and we are happy to help with any specification questions.
What's Included
A 16-row Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler fitted with AN10 banjo adapters, chosen for maximum clearance and minimum pressure loss
A custom aluminium oil cooler and brake duct assembly from HEL, supplied pre-fitted with the cooler
A solid billet, multi-angled 92°C thermostatic sandwich plate for the oil filter
Braided AN10 hose, pre-assembled with anodised-aluminium fittings and wrapped in HEL's high-temperature sleeve
HEL Direct Fit Oil Cooler Kit for Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 X
HEL part number HOCK-MIT-003
Product details
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X became HEL's next focus, known for real performance potential yet equally known for running hot under hard driving, having already covered a string of modern performance cars in earlier projects. Few properly engineered off-the-shelf options existed, so a fully integrated oil cooling upgrade became the goal.
HEL's brief was a direct-fit cooler kit that gives maximum cooling without changing how the car works from the factory. To that end, the whole Evo X engine bay was scanned in 3D, letting HEL's engineers build something that sits exactly right and puts the available space to good use.
Holding the cooler securely while the factory air ducting stays exactly where it was, a pair of custom aluminium brackets forms the result, so air continues to flow as Mitsubishi designed, feeding clean, high-pressure air straight into the core for effective heat rejection.
The kit centres on a Swedish-made Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler, here specified with a 25-row core to cope with sustained high-load driving. That larger core adds noticeably to cooling capacity while keeping flow strong and pressure drop low, which suits fast road use and track-driven Evo Xs.
HEL has relied on Setrab oil coolers for more than a decade because of their build quality and reliability. Cheaper alternatives exist, but none match Setrab for durability, which matters when protecting a high-performance engine. HEL has even seen Setrab coolers still working after front-end impacts.
This kit is supplied with braided hose pre-assembled by HEL, fitted with anodised-aluminium fittings for a tidy install. High-flow AN10 hose routes oil between the engine and the cooler, keeping temperatures steady and under control. Full fitting guidance is provided, with clear diagrams for where the bracket and thermostat go.
Made to suit the Evo X, this kit gives a dependable, effective way to control oil temperature, suited equally to spirited road driving and track days. Clear instructions are supplied, and we are happy to help with any specification questions.

HEL Direct Fit Oil Cooler Kit for Honda Civic (FL5) Type R
HEL part number HOCK-HON-009
Product details
HEL has introduced a direct-fit oil cooler for the 2023-onwards Honda FL5, part of the Civic Type R range. HEL's development team worked on this project after acquiring its own FL5 to develop it on, and is pleased with how it turned out.
Options for locating a cooler were limited on the FL5, in much the same way as the FK8 and unlike the earlier FK2. Once the front end had been scanned in 3D, HEL settled on a spot beside the grille, in strong airflow, that does not restrict air to anything else.
This kit uses a 16-row Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler, a row count that balances low pressure loss with strong cooling.
At the opposite end of the cooler, HEL fitted its latest Multi-Angled Billet thermostatic sandwich plate. Placing the thermostat at the front frees up extra room in this kit, useful because clearance near the oil filter is otherwise tight, and two spare ports on the plate allow temperature or pressure sensors to be added if wanted.
The HEL Multi-Angled Billet thermostatic sandwich plate is set to open at 92°C (197.6°F). HEL finds this setting balances cooling with letting the engine warm up safely; running the oil too cold is also a problem, and the thermostat controls temperature precisely.
This kit comes complete with pre-assembled high-flow AN10 HEL braided hoses, anodised aluminium fittings, and all fixings and brackets, which use the factory mounting points and need no drilling or other modification to the car. The hoses are wrapped in abrasion-resistant heat-shrink braided sleeving, which also helps cut down on noise and rattling.
This direct-fit kit gives the FL5 Type R a dependable cooling system. It comes with clear instructions, and we are happy to help with any specification questions.
Please note:
Oil temperature was recorded with a stand-alone SPAR gauge, its sensor fitted directly into the sandwich plate, giving an accurate reading through testing. By contrast, the figure shown on the car's HUD and Honda LogR system is a simulated value, and should not be relied on once a cooler kit is fitted.
According to HEL, testing took place at Castle Combe in the UK, with an average ambient air temperature of 18°C, and the results are set out in the accompanying graph.
What's Included

HEL custom aluminium oil cooler brackets
A solid billet, multi-angled 92°C thermostatic sandwich plate for the oil filter
Braided AN10 hose, pre-assembled with anodised-aluminium fittings
Please note: this kit only replaces the factory Hyundai oil-to-water cooler, part number 26410-2M800. After finishing its work on the Honda FK2, a Japanese hot hatch, HEL wanted to look at another car the tuning market had largely overlooked, and one of HEL's customers offered their i20N for this development project.
As with other models, HEL wanted an oil cooler kit that was simple to fit, which led its engineers to 3D scan the engine bay and map out the best layout. This resulted in two custom billet-aluminium mounting blocks that hold the cooler on the crash bar. It sits in direct airflow within the grille area, which gave the most effective cooling position.
The kit is built around the widely used Swedish-made Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler. The 13-row version fits the available space well and gives a good balance between low pressure loss and strong cooling.
This kit arrives with braided hose and black anodised-aluminium fittings from HEL, already assembled. High-flow AN10 hose carries oil to and from the cooler, feeding a dedicated HEL billet thermostatic take-off set to open at 92°C (197.6°F). HEL states this setting strikes the right balance, cooling when required while still allowing normal warm-up; running the oil too cold is also a problem, and the thermostat manages temperature precisely.
This direct-fit kit gives the i20N, a car increasingly used on track and known to run hot in that setting, a dependable cooling system. It comes with clear instructions, and we are happy to help with any specification questions.

HEL Direct Fit Oil Cooler Kit for Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 VI
HEL part number HOCK-MIT-005
Product details
HEL's next project became the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 — still, as a rally icon, used hard on both road and circuit — having already covered a broad mix of older and newer performance cars. As power levels rise and driving becomes more demanding, keeping oil temperature under control matters for both performance and reliability, and with few good direct-fit options on the market HEL set out to build a complete cooling package for the car.
HEL's goal was a kit that gives strong cooling while keeping the install close to factory quality. Every part was chosen with a good fit, a simple install, and long service life in mind.
Purpose-made brackets, cut by laser from aluminium, hold the cooler securely in a zone of strong airflow, giving effective heat rejection while keeping the factory-style look. Made to suit the Evo 6 chassis alone, each one fits precisely without further modification.
At the centre of the kit sits a 25-row Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler, made in Sweden. HEL has used Setrab units for over a decade for their build quality, efficiency and durability, and this larger core gives strong cooling for hard road use, circuit days and competitive driving, while keeping flow strong and pressure drop low.
Lower-cost alternatives are available, but HEL reports that none match Setrab for quality or reliability, and protecting a high-performance engine is not somewhere to cut corners. HEL has seen Setrab coolers still working after significant front-end impacts.
Oil reaches the cooler through braided hose pre-assembled by HEL, fitted with lightweight black anodised-aluminium AN10 fittings for a clean finish. The high-flow assembly keeps oil moving freely and temperature under control, helping protect the engine through sustained hard driving.
Built to suit the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 alone, this kit gives a dependable, direct-fit way to manage oil temperature during spirited driving, whether on the road, at track days, or in competition. Full installation instructions are supplied, and we are happy to help with any specification questions.

Continuing the legacy of its ZN6/ZC6 predecessor, the second-generation Subaru BRZ (ZN8/ZC8) has quickly won over driving enthusiasts. Its light, well-balanced chassis has made it popular both on the street and at track days. Following HEL's earlier direct-fit oil cooler kits for the Honda Type R, the Toyota GR and the Ford RS, HEL brought a BRZ into the workshop to do the same. The aim stayed the same: a kit that fits with little or no modification.
The BRZ's front end was removed to give HEL's engineers complete access to plan the new cooler position and the hose routing, plus any custom bracketry needed. The engine bay and ancillaries were scanned in 3D for an accurate fit. A bracket was designed around the threaded points on the factory bumper support, tested first as a printed prototype, then produced in its final aluminium form. HEL's direct-fit brackets are die-cut, folded to shape and powder-coated black for a discreet look, and here the Setrab cooler sits behind the main lower grille, directly in the airflow, which proved the best spot for cooling and performance.
The GR Corolla has been eagerly awaited ever since the Yaris GR raised the bar for this class. With a 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, rally-derived all-wheel drive and a compact chassis, it has drawn attention worldwide and become a regular sight on both roads and race tracks. Having already built direct-fit coolers for the Honda Type R, the Toyota GR and the Ford RS ranges, HEL added the Corolla GR to its workshop programme. The aim stayed the same: a kit that fits with little or no modification.
HEL's engineers scanned the engine, engine bay and ancillaries in 3D to get an accurate fit. The Toyota GR Yaris has stood out in the performance car world since it launched in 2020. Its small, light chassis pairs well with a rally-derived all-wheel-drive system and a strong 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, and it has drawn attention on both public roads and circuits everywhere. Given how well HEL's other direct-fit coolers had done, HEL brought one into the workshop. The aim stayed the same: a kit that fits with little or no modification.
Oil pump: there is no need to change or upgrade the factory oil pump when fitting this kit, which is designed to work with the standard oil system as supplied.
HEL's engineers scanned the engine, engine bay and ancillaries in 3D to get an accurate fit. Once the ideal cooler position had been found, a mounting bracket was made to order around the threaded points on the factory bumper support, proven first as a printed prototype before the final aluminium part was produced. According to HEL, the Yaris was pushed hard during testing, covering quick roads and a demanding circuit alike. Fitted with the 10-row ProLine 6 Series cooler, it ran 10 hot laps at the Castle Combe circuit with no measurable rise in oil temperature.
A clear installation guide is included with every kit, and we are happy to advise on specification if you have any questions.

Product details
Replacing the first-generation GT86 and carrying Toyota's GR performance package, the GR86 made a strong impression on debut. Its 2.4-litre flat-four boxer engine has made it popular on the street and a regular sight on race tracks worldwide. Following HEL's earlier direct-fit oil cooler kits for the Honda Type R, the Toyota GR and the Ford RS, HEL brought a GR86 into the workshop. The aim stayed the same: a kit that fits with little or no modification.
The GR86's front end came off to give HEL's engineers complete access to plan the new cooler position and the hose routing, plus any custom bracketry needed. The engine bay and ancillaries were scanned in 3D for an accurate fit. A bracket was designed around the threaded points on the factory bumper support, tested first as a printed prototype, then produced in aluminium. HEL's direct-fit brackets are die-cut, folded to shape and powder-coated black for a discreet look, and the Setrab cooler sits behind the main lower grille, directly in the airflow, which proved the best spot for cooling and performance.

Product details
Found across a broad range of popular cars, from the Audi S-Line to Volkswagen's GTI and R, Seat's FR and Skoda's VRS models, this 2.0 TFSI unit from VAG's EA888 family was a natural next step after HEL's Honda Type R, Toyota GR and Ford RS direct-fit coolers. The aim stayed the same: a kit that fits with little or no modification.
Every HEL oil cooler kit uses a Setrab unit made in Sweden. HEL has fitted Setrab coolers for over ten years without a single failure or quality issue. Every HEL direct-fit bracket is laser cut, folded to shape and powder-coated black for a discreet finish. The Setrab cooler sits behind the lower bumper grille, directly in the airflow, which proved to be the best spot for cooling, performance and access.
The kit arrives with braided hose and aluminium fittings already assembled, so fitting is straightforward. High-flow AN10 hose carries oil to and from the external cooler, feeding a combined 90-degree take-off plate and spacer plate, which houses a built-in thermostat. That thermostat only lets oil reach the external cooler once it hits 92°C / 198°F.
About a tenth of the engine's oil is passing through the cooler at any one moment. That steady flow avoids air pockets and stops sudden thermal shock, while the remainder returns via an internal bypass, which speeds up warm-up, adds cold-weather protection, and rules out overcooling.

Important: on cars built before 2015, check that the oil filter stem carries the updated OE part number 06L115678Q. Dealers usually fitted this part during a routine service shortly after launch, but if that has not happened on your car, the part remains available from Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Skoda dealers. Fitting it first is essential; HEL strongly advises against continuing with the cooler kit until this component is in place.

HEL Direct Fit SST Transmission Oil Cooler Kit for Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 X
HEL part number HOCK-MIT-004
Product details
Among the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X's known weaknesses is the SST gearbox, particularly under hard driving on fast roads or circuits. High transmission oil temperature can push the car into failsafe mode, cutting power and often bringing a session to an early end.
Few well-engineered off-the-shelf options existed, so HEL set out to build a direct-fit SST transmission cooler kit giving a real gain in cooling without altering how the car works from the factory.
As with HEL's other cooling kits, the Evo X was scanned in 3D to get the best possible fit and manage airflow correctly. This produced a set of custom aluminium brackets that take the place of the factory cooler mount while still allowing the factory-specific air ducting to be reused, so air continues to reach exactly where it is needed for steady cooling.
The kit centres on a Swedish-made Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler, specified here with a 25-row core for sustained high-load use. Its larger surface area and oil capacity help keep transmission temperature in check over long stints, while flow stays strong and dependable.
Track testing alongside Evo specialists Auto Torque has shown this setup getting through full days without overheating or driveline trouble, something the factory cooler could not manage.
This kit is supplied with braided hose, anodised-aluminium fittings and every fixing needed, already assembled for a clean, straightforward fit. It suits any SST-equipped Evo X driven as intended, giving a dependable, effective way to control transmission oil temperature.
What's Included
A 25-row Setrab Series 6 ProLine cooler for the SST transmission
Custom aluminium mounting brackets that keep the factory-specific air ducting in place
Braided hose from HEL, pre-assembled with anodised-aluminium fittings
