The 125 MAX DD2 Evo runs a chainless final drive paired with a 2-speed gearbox, shifted through paddles mounted on the steering wheel, a layout Rotax describes as its closest engine to single-seater racing. It suits drivers with kart racing experience as well as committed leisure karters. First released in 2002, it is credited with prompting chassis manufacturers across the industry to develop new designs around it.
Peak output is 34 hp at 12,000 rpm with 22 Nm of torque, the strongest engine in this range. The bare engine weighs 16.8 kg, rising to 28.8 kg complete with the power pack, on the same 1,040 mm wheelbase chassis as the Junior and Senior engines.
